Asian aesthetics using local materials.

While redesigning this Michelin star restaurant we used the theme ‘Asian aesthetics using local materials’. This theme fits in seamlessly with chef Robin van de Bunt's cooking style.

De Leuf

Interior design + branding

Location: Ubachsberg, The Netherlands

Year: 2022

For many years the previous, fairly classic interior fitted seamlessly with the classic French kitchen of father Paul van de Bunt. But since the introduction of the cooking style of Paul's son Robin van de Bunt, there has been a gap between the appearance of De Leuf and the flavors on the plate. Under the creative leadership of Reiters, the entire restaurant was given a complete restyling

The idea is raw, the execution warm and serene, with Asian elements mostly executed in local materials. So a bit like the culinary magic on the plate. For example, the Kunradersteen, which is quarried near De Leuf, is an important pillar in the interior and a lot of use has been made of warm colors and soft materials.

Not only did the entire interior get a makeover, De Leuf also got a new layout and new routing with the renovation. The lounge has made way for a show kitchen where they do live cooking during lunch and dinner. In addition, there are two workstations for appetizers and snacks and a bar for cocktails and teas. All in the view of the guests. The number of place settings have also been reduced, so that there is more room for an experience in the restaurant and at the table, so the team can focus even more on quality.

The cocktail bar, which is centrally located in the restaurant, has a plaster-finished base and a vintage oak rim. The illuminated back bar is made of patinated copper plates.

The tables in restaurant De Leuf were specially designed by us for this project. Together with the craftsmen of The Woodshed and Raum9091 we’ve provided the entire restaurant with these bespoke tables with a deep dark microcement finish.

The bespoke waiterstation for restaurant De Leuf is made of travertine stone and forms the centerpiece of the restaurant. Above it hangs an illuminated steel frame with thousands of wheat ears below it, picked from a grain field near the restaurant.

The combination of the light and the sloping wheat creates a beautiful golden scene that you want to keep looking at.

The toilets we designed are dark and spherical.

The bespoke sinks are made of Kunrader stone. The stones were extracted in a stone quarry less than 3 km from the restaurant.

“We are very happy with the new interior.
It is contemporary and warm and fits perfectly
with our family business,
our vision on hospitality
and our young team”
